Audio Post: A Commentary on Four Novels
July 30, 2010 4 Comments
This is my first podcast or audio post. It’s kind of an experiment—a discussion of four novels that I read the past week during a refreshing vacation in Washington and Idaho.
Here are the books with links to Amazon:
- Michael Crichton, The Great Train Robbery
- Robertson Davies, The Manticore
- Elizabeth Daly, And Dangerous to Know
- Donald E. Westlake, Pity Him Afterwards
Hi Connie,
I like your tiger drawing. And the idea of drawing in the squares of a calendar (for each day of the week?).

You must read fast. 4 books in a week is a lot.

Hi Ray,
Thanks for listening. By an audio feedback capability, I guess you mean a way of sending an audio comment in response to a post. There are ways to make this happen, but I don’t know how well they work. I’ll look into it.
This audio post is a first try. There’s nothing fancy about it. I recorded the post over the phone and WordPress published it to my site. The audio quality seems OK. Doing it this way, I don’t have the option of reviewing or editing the file before it goes online. But it’s convenient.
Do you have any suggestions for kinds of audio posts you’d like to see here in the future?
I’ll have to pursue your recommendation of Rod Whitaker (a.k.a. Trevanian). I’ve seen the film adaptation of The Eiger Sanction, starring Clint Eastwood. I haven’t read the book—probably should do that next.

What no audio feedback capability. 😉
If I only had access to your lists — read and to be read
Recommend: Add Rod Whitaker for his “The Language of Film” pub 1970 and for his fiction under his pseudonyms (my own favorite being Trevanian — and though I last read Shibumi at least 30 years ago, I still remember with that hair standing up on the back of my neck feeling as fresh today in response to my memory as it was when I first read the lines about who it is who does the hard things.
Have been enjoying the trip through the far country of your reading experiences.
