Do philosophers today
know what they say;
or do they conspire
to make us tire
of frumpery and fog,
to feel like a cog
and slip a gear
from some primal fear
that every word
is genuinely dear
—or simply absurd?

As I read and re-read your poem carefully searching for its meaning, I realized I was doing exactly what you were saying, “from some primal fear that every word is genuinely dear.” You are one of the philosophers today, who “know what they say.”

I some times think that philosophers and psychologists are busy trying to justify their profession by being as you say ‘simply absurd’ in the hopes no one will notice all the blarney. 😉
