My Friend, Frank Pastore

frank-pastoreMy good friend Frank Pastore passed into glory today—after four weeks of silence in a hospital bed. This was following a serious motorcycle accident. Four weeks ago he was on his way home after a broadcast on the Frank Pastore Show when a vehicle crossed into the diamond lane and struck his motorcycle. From that moment on he was in a coma.
There are no words for my feeling of loss and for my deep affection for Gina and the family as they travel this difficult path.
We weep with those who weep, and rejoice with those who rejoice. Sometimes we are strangely conflicted—both weeping and rejoicing. That we weep during this moment everyone will understand; but we also rejoice, and this the world cannot understand. We weep because this is a broken world. We rejoice because we look forward to a new world.
So long, my friend. See you soon! —2 Peter 3:8

I was in his first Worldview apologetics class back in the early 90’s. He had a profound effect on motivating me to “search out” truth and how I should integrate scripture in my life and how to challenge worldly theologies. I remember him telling me his testimony on how he got saved when he was playing mlb and some players handed him a few books and asked him to “review” them because they wanted to “make sure” this would be a worthy following for their lives(of course they knew he was smart and would take the bait). Of course, the books were of strong apologetic christian values(I think a couple of them were Josh Mcdowell)…and of course the rest was history. He gave his life to the Lord! I will miss him even though I last saw him over 20 years ago. I will never forget. I’ll see you on the flip side Frank…maybe tomorrow…maybe 50 years…it’s just a matter of time. God speed, Rick Wagner (Biola 93-96)

These are not just wonderful sentiments but words of truth. Increasingly the world will not understand these words as such, but we must continue to fight the good fight as Frank would have charged us to.
